Year 5 Eureka Moment

On Friday 16th March, Year 5 headed off for a fun filled and adventurous day at the children’s science museum, Eureka. After a long journey there, the excited Year 5 class finally arrived. Firstly, they had a little adventure outside and played in the sandpit as well!

The children’s eyes lit up as they saw the amazing gift shop, they couldn’t decide what to buy because there was so much to choose from – here are some examples of what the children bought: a stretchy skeleton; a bouncy ball with an animal inside; posters; and some people bought some sweets.

An early lunch was had to give the children lots of energy for the afternoon’s activities!  Next, the part most had been waiting for, came the science bit. The children  were taken to the gross science lab where they were introduced to grossologists – Darren and Tasha. The children, who were keen to get stuck in, learnt some gross stuff including information all about poo, blood, sick, wind and snot – and whilst investigations and explanations took place, Mr Stothard was struggling! During the session, volunteers were included and helped with activities such as helping make sick, making a wound and explaining how a scab works!

After that the children were separated into three groups to explore the museum and answer some really tricky questions along the way. The children saw some interesting things such as the Archimedes Screw in action. They also met a friend on the way called Scoot ( a robot) who wanted to know all about human children, including their skin, hair, skin colour, height, weight, and if you can roll your tongue! After a cram packed day of thrilling activities the children were very tired and had a long journey back to Hull.

Here are some opinions of the day. Beth Hayward said that it was interesting and exciting because there were lots of fun facts that she learnt and that it was an excellent experience. Harry White said that is was really really fun because he went to jail and picked up the phone in the bank and was pretending to steal money.  Year 5 had a fabulous fun packed day!
