Very Healthy!
The varied provision of activities at Victoria Dock Primary School continue to be much enjoyed by the children right across the school. In the past week different classes have been cooking, swimming and playing tennis – not to mention the visit in from an artist, Doug Smelt.
Year 4 children have recently started the Local Authority run swimming sessions which will take place over several weeks to help children meet the requirements of the National Curriculum and be able to swim 25 metres. That is as well as our Year 1/2 children in Miss Sainty’s class who are currently attending sessions for the half term.
Year 4 children have been enjoying sessions at Nuffield Tennis Centre in groups of fifteen as the strong link between the centre and the school continues. The sessions are an hour long with our own school staff whilst supervising, pick up great coaching points to aid their own professional development whislt the other half of the class, back at school, benefit from great teacher:pupil ratios.
Year 6 seem to be having more visits in and out than most as a local artist, Doug Smelt, came in to share his Fish and Chips work, its story and a session where the children were guided to recreate it on their own – the art work it must be said by the children is superb!
The usual Cooking Club is taking a short break whilst Mrs Kelly and Mrs Richardson attend a cookery course with Mrs Nelson, something which will somehow raise the quality of the club and the in-school sessions which are taking place each Wednesday afternoon with Mrs Kelly and Mrs Nelson. The children in Year 1/2 made pizzas this week and they tasted great!
