Key Stage One comprises of two year groups with approximately 96 children between the ages of five and seven. At Victoria Dock staffing ratios in Key Stage One are very favourable with five qualified teachers and two Teaching Assistants leading learning through the week. The classes work very closely together in all areas, sharing planning in the chosen topics for the year.
All children in Key Stage One have access to well-structured learning through play opportunities in our shared area and secure outside area. Also for the children in Year One, it is important to build on prior knowledge from the Foundation Stage as these children are still very young. Progress is carefully monitored.
The children in Year Two are encouraged to be even more independent and to take greater control of their own thinking and learning. During the year the children still study the usual subjects through a topic approach, but towards the end of the year there is an emphasis on the transition from not only Year Two to Year Three, but from Key Stage One to Key Stage Two.
