Statutory School Age
Children are admitted into Foundation Two at the beginning of the academic year (September) in which they have their fifth birthday. As a Local Authority maintained school, admissions for the main school (Foundation 2 and above) are managed by, and are the responsibility of the Local Authority. Visit Hull City Council’s website for details: Hull City Council Admissions
The Admission book states:
Admissions Criteria for Victoria Dock Primary School
1. Children in public care at the time when preferences are expressed and who are still in public care at the time of their admission to school, and those who have been previously looked after,
2. Significant medical factors or exceptional family circumstances,
3. Being resident in the catchment area of the school,
4. Having a brother or sister who will be attending the school at the expected time of admission,
If the school is oversubscribed from within its catchment area after the allocation of statemented children and children under criteria 1, 2 and 4 then a process of random allocation will be used as a tie-breaker for the other criteria. The names of those children whose parent(s) have submitted applications under the arrangements set out in the co-ordinated admissions scheme for a place at the school and who are resident in the catchment area (criterion 3) but have not been allocated a place using criteria 1, 2 and 4 will be placed on the school’s ‘random allocation list’.
The School’s Admission limit is 30. If the number of places exceeds 30, offers are made by the Local Authority using published criteria. Children who do not gain places have the right of appeal.
Foundation 1 – Non-Statutory School Age
Victoria Dock Primary School has its own Foundation 1 where provision can be offered for up to 15 hours per week. Offers for September 2012 have now been made and any additional requests for places will be placed on a waiting list. Children may attend:
- every morning from 08.45 to 11.45
or
- every afternoon from 12.15 to 15.15.
Places in Foundation 1 are for children who will not be of statutory school age until after September 2013.
The following criteria will be used to allocate places:
- Living on Victoria Dock
- Having an older sibling attending the school
- Age of child (oldest first)*
*Places will be allocated according to age with the older children in the morning and the younger in the afternoon.
Parents who have requested a place in Foundation One will be notified by half-term before the child is due to commence if they have been successful. Places will be offered to children according to the criteria above. Requests made after each half-term for a place in Foundation One will be granted should spaces be available.
Children and parents will be invited into the school for a welcome meeting prior to entry into both Foundation One and Foundation Two.
Please note that having a place in Foundation One does not guarantee admission into Foundation Two (Statutory School Age). Please see the Local Authority’s Admission Criteria.
