At Victoria Dock Primary School, living a healthy lifestyle is very much part of our curriculum. Lessons include healthy eating, safe practices, drug awareness and sex education (as appropriate).
We focus on inclusivity, valuing every member of our school community, building on mutual respect and understanding.
Our menus are based on healthy options, offering children plenty of choice. Drinking water is available throughout the day within the classroom. Meals are cooked on the premises and are of a high standard.
Physical Education is taught for two hours per week from Year 1 to Year 6 and in addition, children from Foundation 2 to Year 6 have a fitness session each week taken by a qualified fitness instructor.
Every effort is made for all children to learn to swim before they leave us in Year 6 through a structured swimming programme, again taken by qualified instructors. From September 2008, all year groups from Year 1 to Year 6 have swimming lessons during the year, such is its value to the overall health and well-being of the children.
Many sports after school clubs are available for children to access – including football, gymnastics, dance, table-tennis, rugby, cycling, running and badminton. These clubs may change according to the season.
